Why Choose ELT

Legal Compliance Training in Sexual Harassment, Ethics & Code of Conduct, Equal Employment, and More

Workplace compliance training must be able to withstand the most intense jury scrutiny. Few purchasing decisions that your organization makes will need to meet this standard. With issues such as sexual harassment, discrimination, and ethics and code of conduct violations, choosing a compliance training partner is like choosing an attorney – quality on all levels cannot be compromised. In fact, a poorly designed training program can actually create liability for your organization. (Learn More about Training Program Must Have’s)

Why Do Leading Employers Across the Country Choose ELT as their Training Provider?

Our Legal Expertise & the Power of Littler

  • ELT courses are built in active partnership with Littler Mendelson – the world-renowned law firm with more than 600 attorneys and 43 offices across the country.

Unlike many e-learning companies who share a "marketing relationship" with a law firm or legal association, Littler is integral to ELT's day-to-day operations. ELT courseware is built with a team of attorneys who are actively engaged in product design, development and ongoing updates.

Drawing from leading case law, as well as years of "in the trenches" experience, ELT's content experts engage in the rigorous process of Legal Engineering™ to ensure that programs provide the most effective protection, and can withstand the most intense jury scrutiny. We work with practicing attorneys who actually litigate cases in which training is used defensively. ELT's courseware is "engineered" from the most recent case law and regulatory guidelines. Our instructional design is further enhanced by decades of Littler's hands-on experience in live employee training.

Unlike many e-learning vendors who simply pay a law firm or an individual lawyer to review a completed course scripts and correct errors or omissions, at ELT, we bring the entire brain trust of Littler Mendelson to bear in our solutions from a program's very conception through to its release and ongoing maintenance. This depth of expertise and acute attention to detail provides an entirely different level of sophistication, quality and support for our clients.

  • When a change in the law requires an update to our courses, we know about it first. The update is made in real time, at no cost to our clients.

ELT has an unmatched ability to stay abreast of legal developments, because we are an integral part of the Littler Mendelson 24/7 legal update network.

An e-learning company formed by a handful of ex-attorneys, or one that relies on individual relationships with a few lawyers, simply does not have the resources to engage in a daily, rigorous review of state and federal legal developments. This is also true for a training provider that offers dozens of course titles, taking a "library approach" to development. As importantly, if subject matter experts are no longer practicing, they cannot stay abreast of cutting edge developments or the practical impact of litigation trends.

ELT's relationship with Littler gives us the unique ability to predict future changes in the law, and to develop our courseware to anticipate those changes. We provide you with content you can trust.

  • ELT has a prominent reputation for educating the employer community

ELT has built an impressive reputation as a leader in legal compliance training education. Our breadth of expertise has allowed us to effectively interface with the legal and government communities. From these relationships, we gain knowledge and insight that directly benefits our clients.

For example, for the past two years, ELT has invited the author of California's new sexual harassment training law (AB 1825), Sarah Reyes, to join a series of complimentary webinars on best practices for AB 1825 compliance. In 2007, Ann Noel, Executive & Legal Affairs Secretary for the California Fair Employment & Housing Commission was also invited to join this public webinar series. (View the AB 1825 Compliance Webcast)

Because of Littler Mendelson and ELT's shared experience in workplace and sexual harassment prevention, individuals from both organizations were appointed to the Blue Ribbon Advisory Committee (BRAC) which advised California's Fair Employment and Housing Commission (FEHC) in drafting the AB 1825 sexual harassment training regulations.

Our Quality Courseware & Production Capabilities

  • ELT courseware uses a unique, story-based training template that engages and entertains.

Our e-learning solutions are unlike any other training product in the marketplace. Our unique story-based approach transports your employees into a dynamic, virtual workplace where they interact with and learn from compelling, real-world characters. We provide an unrivalled learning experience that marries the absolute best in content and instructional design.

Every story-driven ELT course takes place in a real workplace environment and is based on actual case law. Learners are engaged in a truly interactive, cutting-edge experience that draws upon the universally understood modalities of film and television. Each course maintains dramatic momentum and keeps users clicking through to the end.

ELT programs far surpass the mundane text-based courses that are so prevalent in the marketplace, as well as those programs with disjointed scenarios strung together by a faceless narrator. As importantly, ELT's real-world approach does not trivialize the subject matter of the training with cartoons, rudimentary graphics or "gimmicky" game show elements.

  • ELT creates high production value courseware that reflects the importance of your organization's compliance program.

We use professional actors, writers, directors, producers and photographers for all of our solutions. Our courseware is polished and compelling. It reflects the level of quality and care that your organization wants to associate with the highest levels of its HR, Legal and Employee Relations Departments, as well as the CEO and Board.

ELT can also leverage our instructional design and production expertise to provide clients with low cost and rapid customization services. ELT owns a media library of thousands of custom photographs and houses a sound studio at its headquarters in San Francisco.

  • ELT's courses provide practical information and avoid "legalese."

Workplace compliance training should focus on practical behavior and expected standards of conduct at your organization. It is unproductive and potentially dangerous to expose employees and managers to the intricacies of case law and statutes.

Our programs are designed to speak to everyday employees – not lawyers. ELT courseware communicates key legal principles into clear guidelines and ensures that learners understand how to apply those guidelines through mandatory, compelling interactive exercises.

  • Courses explore the important "gray areas" of compliance without dwelling on the obvious.

Training that stresses the obvious issues relating to sexual harassment, ethics training, and other compliance topics does not effectively educate your employees, nor does it protect your organization against the most challenging areas of risk.

ELT courseware provides clear guidance on appropriate and inappropriate workplace behavior, but also draws learners into compelling scenarios that explore the subtleties and complexities of legal compliance. Our story-based approach allows us to explore the "gray areas" with realism and context. Employees remember and learn from this kind of experience.

Our Proven Success

  • ELT is the only training provider whose legal content has been the subject of an independent ROI analysis.

The State of Washington began training with ELT content in 1999, and conducted an independent ROI analysis of the impact of the training. That analysis showed a 42% reduction in the number of employment law claims, and an estimated hard cost annual savings of $2.2M. (Learn more about our demonstrated ROI) No other training provider has been the subject of this kind of intensive, independent review.

  • ELT's courseware has been repeatedly approved by the EEOC for consent decrees that mandate employee training.

On multiple occasions, ELT's harassment and discrimination prevention solutions have been reviewed by state EEOC offices for consent decrees that require training. In each instance, ELT's programs have been unanimously approved and supported.

  • ELT's learner completion rate consistently exceeds 95%, and our customer satisfaction levels are extraordinary.

We don't just estimate completion rates – we track them each month. Because of our engaging approach to training, and our stable technology, ELT's statistical completion rate consistently exceeds 95%.

In addition to this important numerical metric, ELT receives overwhelmingly positive feedback from learners and Training Administrators alike. (See our positive customer feedback) Employees and managers actually enjoy our training. In fact, while ELT receives a large volume of referrals from our direct client contacts, we also receive a significant number of referrals from end users who recommend our training solutions to friends, family and colleagues.

Our Focus on What Matters

  • Best of Breed Content Providers

ELT partners exclusively with the best content providers. Through our shared commitment to the highest quality Legal Engineering™, we develop solutions with a level of care and attention to detail that is simply unmatched. Through one integrated solution, ELT offers superior expertise across the compliance spectrum.

  • A Targeted Solution

ELT focuses on select training topics. We assess employers' greatest areas of risk, analyze the most highly regulated workplace issues, and determine the training that must be delivered to the largest employee populations. We then invest all of our development and support resources into a targeted e-learning library. Employment law issues form the heart of that offering. These issues unequivocally create the most risk for employers, as evidenced by the most recent EEOC statistics, hotline reporting statistics and insurance company risk surveys.

ELT's business model gives us the luxury of focus -- we "tend a small garden." We do not develop and attempt to maintain dozens of courses that will be underutilized by our clients. Instead, ELT offers the highest quality solutions in those areas where employers train the most such as workplace and sexual harassment training, ethics training, discrimination training, equal employment opportunity training, and more. For our clients, this approach saves money, ensures the best, most up-to-date training programs and maximizes completion rates.

  • A Commitment to Refresh and Rebuild Our Most Popular Courses

ELT is committed to keeping our courses accurate and up-to-date through our rigorous, ongoing maintenance process. In addition to this commitment, we rebuild entirely new courses for our most popular topics (like workplace and sexual harassment prevention training) every few years. Our clients always have fresh content for their employees, and a range of training options to choose from. ELT customers benefit from a continually evolving, targeted training solution that provides the best value and the highest quality.

We are so confident in our technical stability, our service level agreement provides an uptime level guarantee, and associated refunds in the event that were we to ever drop below that level.

  • Rigorous Testing Protocols

ELT engages in rigorous testing across three critical areas – content, functionality and performance. It is easy for an e-learning vendor to skip this time intensive and costly process because it is not something readily apparent during the sales process. It is something clients are impacted by after launch and rollout. The investment that ELT makes in testing provides our clients with the most stable and reliable solution available.

    1. Content testing – Beyond ELT's intensive content development process with our attorney subject matter experts, we engage in additional testing after a course is complete. We conduct alpha, beta and acceptance reviews by an additional team of subject matter experts and external consultants.

Course content is then put through a rigorous phase of testing with outside quality assurance (QA) resources to ensure that each screen contains the correct content and media, and that there are no typos or grammatical errors. On average, each course is tested across 20+ different operating systems, browsers and Macromedia FlashPlayers.

ELT engages in additional specialized testing for our 508 compliant solutions to ensure that we meet all standards for federal accessibility.

Functional testing is designed to confirm that all programmed aspects of a course are working as they should – e.g. all hyperlinks, help screens, bookmarking and completion reporting. As with the content testing, functional tests are run across 20+ different operating systems, browsers and Macromedia FlashPlayers.

    2. Performance testing is broken into two categories: "At spec" testing (56k speed for audio versions of the courseware and 28.8 speed for silent), and "Below spec" testing (less than a 56k connection for audio courseware, less than 28.8 speed for silent). At spec testing ensures that courseware is performing as it should, even across a dial-up connection. Below spec testing is designed to "break" the courseware across a low connection speed. This means that if an end user accesses the courseware in an environment inconsistent with ELT's technical requirements, s/he will be unable to skip content or disable the tracking system.
